I spent Easter at Kilima Kiu near Konza, at the south of the Athi Kapiti Ecosystem of which NNP is a part & drovev the Kapiti (properly Kaputiei) plains to get there…..

Many cattle died in the drought of 2009 & sheep do well on the short grass plain (heavily grazed.) Ngong Hills in the bachground.

    Any sign of big cats down there ? Cheetah , lion , leopard ?

    These are REALLY good images Will, the one of the cattle is especially good; the light, dust and clouds are great and the Ngongs with the silhouette of the herder top it off wonderfully!! Also the road to Kitengela is an interesting one, its amazing and a bit scary to see each time I come back how it develops and expands.. could be a photo project in that..

    I hope you are all well and enjoyed your easter, it must of been 2 or 3 years ago that we spent it at Soysambu.. good memories of that indeed.

    Hi Gareth. I do not know the “Kapiti” plains wildlife so well, but plenty of ‘plains game’: gnu, zebra, gazelles. There seem to be good numbers of cheetah, but alas, I doubt they (or any other wildlife) can cross the Namanga highway & it’s ribbon development.

    I do not believe lions or leopard occur here, but I could be wrong there: like most places outside protected areas in Kenya, there is increasing pressure from people & their economic activities…..
