In the middle of the road, one of the common cobras of Nairobi National Park: a black-necked spitting cobra
Snakes cannot hear, this one could FEEL something very large approaching….hence the threatening stance
Cobras are usually noctournal & feed largely on amphibians such as toads…
This guy (gal?) was probably sun-bathing in the middle of the road (it is cold & rainy in Nairobi at present)
The snake would not move, so having wound up the relevant window as a precaution, I drove around it, whereupon it slipped off into the undergrowth……

amazing! I hope there were no crazy speeding drivers that day! I really think KWS needs to enforce the 40km/h speed limits more strictly.
This thng looks scary, i wouldnt be found 10 kms near it in any direction. I am terrified of snakes but great pics
gr8 pics. Ya, they definitely should inforce the speed limit strictly. THe other day a 4WD whizzed past me, maybe at 60.
btw spitting cobras make NNP a dangerous place to get out of the car for a leak, don’t they?
Although i wouldn’t dare face this creature, i can only say that’s a an incredible shot.
Ooops! What a shot! Amazing pictures but scary….Now know how dangerous it can be to get out of the car… but glad the park has such potential!
this is one very luck snake! too many road kill and too many speedy drivers who just do not give a damn about any animals or even person. and he/she is beautiful.
